Leroy Sane vowed to “bounce back stronger” after his shock omission from Germany’s World Cup squad.

Manchester City winger Sane scored 14 goals and made 19 assists in 49 games for Pep Guardiola’s side last season, and deservedly named PFA young player of the season.

However, the 22-year old was surprisingly among the four names left out when boss Joachim Low cut his 27-man preliminary squad down to his final 23 for the tournament in Russia.

Sane said: “Thank you so much everyone for your encouraging messages yesterday and today.

“I’m obviously disappointed I won’t participate in the World Cup but I have to accept this decision and I’ll give it my all to bounce back stronger.
“Nothing but the best to the team in Russia. Go get that title!”

Germany coach Low explained that it was a tough decision leaving out the tricky winger from the final squad.

He explained at the time: ‘That was a very close decision between him(Sane) and Julian Brandt, which was made in favor of Brandt.’
He continued: ‘There are certainly easier days in the life of a national team head coach than the day where I have to send four payers home.

‘These are four players who had merited their place in the provisional squad through their performances
‘I spoke to the four players and the disappointment was huge, as you would expect.

‘It’s as if you are stood at the check in desk for your flight to Moscow, but are then prevented from boarding.’
