CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER FINALS SUMMARY AT A GLANCE.

Posted on Posted in Champions League

As Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Roma booked their places in the last four of the European Champions League, we took a look on how they all qualified…

MANCHESTER CITY 1-5 LIVERPOOL

The Citizens were hopeful

But Mo Salah made them sorrowful

Pep’s masterclass was outclassed by Klopp

And there was jubilation at the Kop.

Gabriel Jesus began the Etihad occasion with a bang

But Mo Salah again repeated the initial song that he sang

And when referee sent Pep to a wilderness of his own

It dawned on the Citizens that Liverpool will never walk alone.

BARCA 4-4 ROMA

Barca struck four times at Catalunya

But Dzeko’s solitary strike gave them cause for an Alleluia

Barca, seemingly done and dusted after a decent result

The Romans were prepared for an epic assault

Daniel de Rossi lofted it long to Edin Dzeko

And the party at the Olympic stadium kick started with a noisy echo

Messi was as messy as Iniesta

The Roma rare guard was too tight for Barca to enter

Even on the defensive, Barca could still not counter

Alas! Roma gave them a lesson to remember

At first it seemed unassailable for Roma

But at last, ‘a humiliating result’ was the most suitable for Barca

BAYERN MUNICH 2-1 SEVILLA

Sheer belief and confidence as high as the sky

Sevilla will not easily let this pass them by

Bayern Munich came to town

But enforced errors made Vincenzo Montella’s Sevilla look like clowns.

The Bavarians at the Allianz arena were awed by Sevilla’s early flash

The Spanish side wanted something better than their home crash

A win would have flattered them

But Jupp Heynckes has long bundled them.

REAL MADRID 4-4 JUVENTUS

In Turin, the Old Lady looked doomed

So was the speed at which Real Madrid zoomed

It looked grey and pale for Buffon’s penultimate appearance

So was Juve defences’ poor clearance

Three goals conceded

The Old Lady defeated

Ronaldo’s beauty a joy to behold

Buffon’s legacy a monument to uphold

At the Bernabeu, the wind chimed and the earth shook from thunder,
And Zidane’s mind was but befixed to wonder;
How could he stand amidst this storm,
Seek shelter not, yet still seem warm

Three goals conceded at a glance

The dream could be gone with no second chance

But mother-luck struck at the dead

A moment in Buffon’s career which will never be dead

In the end Real Madrid took the day

But it was Juve who made the hay!
