Wayne Rooney has likened United’s capture of Alexis Sanchez to that of Carlos Tevez; and he is confident the Chilean will positively impact Romelu Lukaku following his January transfer from Arsenal.
The Everton striker spoke about what Manchester United fans can expect from the duo while providing analysis on Watford’s 4-1 demolition of Chelsea on Monday.
Lukaku made a stunning start to life at Old Trafford when he arrived in the summer.
However, the 24-year old has lost his early season swagger and has struggled recently for Mourinho’s side.
Manchester United’s Legend – Rooney is confident that Sanchez will fix this problem, and will push Lukaku to reach his obvious potentials.
“For me he is the perfect player for Manchester United,” Rooney told Sky Sports. “He’s got aggression, he’s got passion, desire. You can see he’s a winner.
“So I think that’s sort of what Manchester United have lacked, players around Lukaku who are going to push Lukaku on as well and try and help him, give him a bit more freedom, score more goals.”
“Sanchez will do that and they are the players they want, almost like [Carlos] Tevez when he joined Manchester United.
“Them players lift the other players and gets an extra five, ten per cent out of the players around him. I think Alexis Sanchez will do that.”
