Thibaut Courtois says he will sit down with Chelsea chiefs to discuss a new contract this month, but refuses to rule out a move to Real Madrid.
Courtois’ contract at Stamford Bridge will expire in 18 months time and speculation continues to link him with a return to the Spanish capital, where he has a young son and daugther.
Courtois’ former partner, Marta Dominguez, lives with his young son, Nicolas, and daughter, Adriana, in Madrid.
The 25-year old Belgian enjoyed an outstanding loan spell at Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014 and still has the intention of returning to the Spanish capital someday.
He however, admitted that at the moment, he’s happy at Chelsea.
“We agreed to meet again in February because the club had more urgent issues to deal with in January; Courtois told Sport Foot Magazine in Belgium:
There’s no pressure, I am under contract until 2019. If there is no problem, I will prolong.
“I am happy here and I see a club that still wants to win a lot of titles. The signals are positive. [Also] the desire to extend Eden Hazard reassures me.”
“My personal situation is related to the city of Madrid, it’s known. My two children live there with their mom. I have my daughter every day on Facetime. She often tells me that I miss her. My son is still too small to communicate like that.
“As a situation, it is not always easy. [And] yes, my heart is in Madrid. It is logical and understandable.”
Courtois added “If they (Real Madrid) want me, they have to contact Chelsea.
“We’ll see. But they never did it. What is certain is that I will one day return to Madrid. I love Spain, I loved this city, I spent three wonderful years there. It is there that I became an adult.
“If Real are really interested, then my personal situation would be key, yes. The family aspect, it is priceless.”
