Diego Costa scored on his return to La Liga – and was sent off less than sixty seconds later.
The former Chelsea man, who returned to Atletico Madrid during the summer after falling out with Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has had to wait for his second league debut with the club due to their transfer embargo.
Costa stepped off the bench to score against Lleida Esportiu in the Copa del Rey last week and was rewarded with a starting spot for the meeting with Getafe on Saturday.
Angel Martin Correa gave Diego Simeone’s side the lead after just 18 minutes of a bad-tempered affair.
Costa picked up a yellow card on 62 minutes following a reckless challenge. Six minutes later, though, Costa doubled Atletico’s advantage.
Sime Vrsaljko found the Spain international unmarked in the box and he made no mistake with the finish.
But Costa then jumped over the barriers and ran into the crowd to celebrate. He was subsequently handed his second yellow card and sent off.
The controversial striker ripped off his shirt and headed straight down the tunnel.
