Messi edged Virgil Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo to FIFA the best award last night in Milan.

All three players were nominated as the three main contenders for the award, voted for by international captains, coaches and a delegate from each nations media, and Barcelona superstar Messi went home with the gong.
