Following Spain’s trashing of Argentina on Tuesday, Atletico Madrid striker, Diego Costa has admitted that Lionel Messi who took no part in the game would have made a difference if he had played.
Julen Lopetegui side beat Argentina 6-1 in an international friendly on Tuesday at the Bernabeu.
Diego Costa opened the scoring for Spain in just the 12th minute before Isco bagged a hat-trick, and Thiago Alcantara and Iago Aspas netted a goal apiece.
Nicolas Otamendi’s goal for Argentina in the first half was only a mere consolation.
Messi was filmed leaving the stands after the Barcelona man could no longer stand the beating of his ‘brothers’.
And now, former Chelsea striker Costa has confirmed that Messi would have made a difference if he had played
“You can see that when Messi is not around it’s something else,” said Costa.
“To have Messi on the pitch changes many things. You can see that when he is not on the pitch, they are missing their leader.
“Argentinians know that Messi is Messi. I hear that people criticise [him], but Messi deserves preferential treatment because he is the best.
“A player like Messi cannot be criticised. You have to give thanks to god that he exists.”
