Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has revealed exactly why superstar Cristiano Ronaldo ran to look himself in a camera phone after being booted in the face.
Deportivo’s Fabian Schar booted the Portuguese superstar and the forward was left covered in blood as he stopped to head home a Casemiro cross for his second goal of the game in Real’s emphatic 7-1 win.
“Cristiano grabbed the mobile to see if he could continue playing or not,” Zidane told a Press conference.
“He wanted to know, whether the cut was very deep or not. I am saying exactly what he told us in the dressing room after. I am not making anything up.
“They stitched it up and today (Monday) he was back in training. If he is training with us, with his eye like this [swollen] it shows how important it is for him to be on the pitch.”
After he scored, Ronaldo was desperate to find out what sort of damage he had done to his face.
As he was getting treatment, he borrowed a phone from Real’s physio to check on how he was looking.
Ronaldo received more treatment after the match and showed off a scar next to his eye.
“They have given him two or three stitiches and it’s fine,” Zinedine Zidane said at his post-match press conference.
After the clash, Zidane said: “He has got a wound and I think he’s been given two or three stitches. He’s all right.”
