Everton manager, Sam Allardyce has suggested he’ll unleash “the best striker in Europe for the money” on Liverpool, as he gambles on FA Cup glory.A £27m deal to bring Turkey’s number one striker Cenk Tosun to Goodison was finalised on Thursday, and the Everton manager revealed the centre forward will be on the bench in the derby – if his paperwork clears by the 12 noon deadline on Friday.
And even though the 26-year-old hasn’t played for three weeks, the Blues boss revealed it will be a no-brainer to put him on the bench, because he has the quality to deliver a huge victory that could make Everton’s season.
“I think probably if he is available for the bench I think that is the best I’m going to get to,” Allardyce explained of the now former Besiktas forward.
“The situation has dragged on for a period of time, they’ve finished just before Christmas so there has been a period where he has not done any training…we would be cautious but it is not impossible to get him in the squad on the bench”.
Allardyce meanwhile, is confident the player – who cost an initial £23m with potential add-ons – will bring a strong goalscoring record to Goodison.
“On his track record and his age, hopefully it will be the case that he improves us. Could he be on the bench for the FA Cup? Possibly.
“It all depends on his overall fitness. We wouldn’t want to damage him just because it’s the FA Cup. He wants this move to happen.
“There is lots of mental energy that you burn when you are waiting for these moves to happen. But that assessment will come from the medical and fitness staff and we just want to get the deal done first.
There is a huge pressure on the lad and we hope he can handle it.”
Allardyce is adamant that the Turkey international striker has all it takes to improve the Toffees.
“It’s his pedigree really. The pedigree he has, what he has shown; his age. There aren’t that many in that elite block of age.
“Hopefully he will come and show us that he is good value for money.
“It’s up to him. We have focused on this deal. There were a number of strikers we looked at but this is the one we decided on.”
